i think the exact opposite. in the short term having a spyder will be easier but it also teaches you to spray and pray which is a horrible habit.
Phantoms teach you to make every shot count and to expose as little of yourself as possible. When you move on from a phantom to a semi you will be much better then someone who started with a semi. the same goes(to a lesser extent) for the tippy and spyder/piranha.
the phantoms are the best pumps out there other then the dyes...
