I haven't seen a J&J yet that wasn't flat black ceramic, other than the silver parts on their barrel kits. I heard they used to use a green ceramic though.
Scopes are worthless because they magnify.
A red dot sight can be used, but it really isn't worth it. The balls will drop and arc enough that you'll probably find yourself not bothering with the sight before too long.
Tippmann barrels are not hard to find. Yes, they have different threads and are thus called Tippmann Threades. That's like saying Angel barrels are hard to find because they are different threads than every other gun.
Most of all, don't be scared of taking your marker apart. It isn't hard at all. The internal diagrams are available for free on Tippmanns website if you get stuck. Just watch out for losing the little spring that is under the front sight. It likes to jump out when you take the sides apart. You can avoid this altogether by leaving the elbow on the side until after you take the gun apart. They take it off and collect the spring.
