It's nice to know that my idea isn't too nutty and that someone else has tried it and pulled it off. Any tips?
I've also been messing around with home electroplating and anodizing. Right now I'm attempting to copper plate an old LPC I had laying in my junk box. I've got a little rig I set up with a 9v wall wart, some 5 watt power resistors, a glass spaghetti jar and a switch. I'm using vinegar as my electrolyte. I just have to strip the clear anno off of the LPC, then I'm going to zinc plate it by using a piece of zinc plated steel as the annode. After I zinc plate it I'll be putting on the copper plating by using some #6 solid bare copper wire as the annode. I've got it coiled in such a fashion that it will fit in the jar and I can wire up both ends in hopes that the wire will erode relatively evenly and will completely encompass the part for an even distribution of copper plating. If this works I might go hit garage sales looking for cheap jewelry and try gold plating something.
