You should only use knives that are designed for throwing if you plan on throwing. They are made of a softer steel so they don't break when they strike the target and are designed to be better balanced so they fly straight and don't bounce back. Also, when you throw hold the knife by the handle (not by the blade) and try to get as little rotation as possible.
