I work in a body shop. An automotive clearcoat such as the one made by PPG is great. Though It's quite pricey. We put them on cars and guarantee them for life. I don't know how much a quart would cost, but it's 180 for a gallon or so. But if you are going to put the time in to paint it, you might as well use the good stuff. Also, Napa sells stuff made by Sherwin Williams in their Martin Senour line. If you go to Oreilley's I'm pretty sure you can get the dupont stuff. And I have a guy I work with who sprays RM clear on his cars and they come out "slick as snot". Just go to your nearest auto body supply store (napa, parts plus) and check their prices. You also may want to check into matrix paint.
