Actually Dr. Dunning recommended the first one to me. This class, unfortunately, only led up to October(old calendar)1917. I will not be able to take anymore histories where I am in my major, so the professor who taught it is helping me compile a reading list to "finish the narrative" so to say. Very interesting to get the complete story of the revolution, without the cold war dribble of "communism is bad, therefore the tsar must have been good". The proff I had is probably a wee-bit communist in his leanings, but did a great job(IMO) of sticking to the facts of the matter without heavy bias one direction or the other. I'm hoping to audit his class on pre-imperial Russia in the fall.

BTW- Lenon may have been an amazing orator, but reading his writing is like pulling teeth with no Novocaine.
