i managed to get ahold of my friend. In typical fashion, he said he doesn't know what finally fixed it.
So doesn't look like I can help you much. Although I bet if I had it in my hand I could fix it. VERY few markers I can't fix (mechanical/pneumatic issues that don't require replacement parts) out there.
