The reason it gets all soft like a gummy bear is that the recipe for shell and a gummy bear are almost the same. Paintballs are made (atleast Diablo/Draxxus) are made with the gummy bear recipe shell, and the filling is made from the inert non-medicinal syrup for cough medicine and crayon wax. Thats it. Thats why most paintballs don't completely freeze.
