the flatline barrel's main advantage is a straight tradjectory. I agree that the actual paintball goes further but unless you get a lucky shot and hit their gun or goggles it most likely won't break. I think the 98 you have chosen is a nice starter marker. Personally i would go for the responce trigger over the e grip for two reasons.

1. Response triggers doesn't need batteries.
2. you can get them soaking wet and still play. ( I seem to wind up playing in the rain a lot and a good all mech marker is a great thing to have.
