I will admit I don't know everything about barrels. You won't be sniping head shots from 175 yards with a flatline. But you can bunker people and put pressure on areas of the field without people being able to shoot back.
The barrel also give you and extra 25 yards to your kill zone. By that i mean the distance you are sure your will hit your target. Shots go straighter for longer and are much more consistant. It's also nice to not have to arc your balls at all. They travel in a straight line so you just point and shoot. You don't need to think about ball drop.
The biggest problem is you need to use good paint. Cheap paint will get you breaks and a break cripples this barrel. So you need to keep that in mind. This can be a large problem if your field uses crappy paint. You also need to have a field large enough to make use of the extra range.
I play up front and like to get in close so i don't know alot about back. But when i use my friends gun with the flat line i'm shocked at how much farther and straighter i shoot.
If you know of barrels that can improve performce better than this i would love to hear of them so i can get one :P
