I hate to stay off topic but you're right, it is a pop but it would take a stronger pop to counter the extra friction of the barrel, meaning a higher set velocity for the same ball velocity. The amount of extra gas need is very small though since there isn't that much additional friction.
Back on topic... I once heard a kid ask where his barrel plug went?!?!
