quickie on detent removal

so when i punch out my ball detent on my rail, can i drive it back in afterwards? I have the parts for 2 complete mags minus a rail, so i just want to take the detent out and mount my ule body on the stock rail, until i get next paycheck so i can order a rpg splinter rail, then use the stock rail with the stock body with the intelliframe and rt pro valve.

detent? i believe you mean the twist lock assembly.

Yes, you can remove it, steps-
unscrew the screw, and there should be a spring and pin in there.
put those somewhere save. then take a hammer/mallet, and give the bottom side hell.

For the twist lock barrels, you look at the barrel and there are 2 orings over top of either a wire or piece of plastic. Those are your "detents" called nubbins.

because basically a twist lock assembly was the equivalent to a modern detent on classic mags?

I dont know why people say that. I played with twist lock barrels and nubbins for over 11 years and have minimal problems with them. I guess other werent so fortunate?

Dont get me wrong, the cocker-thread/angel detent is much more desirable... if for the simple fact that you dont have to worry about replacing the detent on EVERY barrel you own.
