Macro line question

Ok, so I got a new macro line today, to replace my old sorry looking one. The are the exact same length. When i took off the old line, it had some type of brass air filter/muffler thing, and it screws to the inside of the line. My new one does not have it, and in diameter, the new line is alot thinner.
Will this affect my gun any? Do I need it?

Muffler? Pics? I have no idea... Are you sure its macroline? You bought a nylon (hard plastic) tube? Or a SS hose?

Yea, it's SS, I have no idea why i've been calling it Macro.
I can get pics if need be. Yea it is wierd, but i'm pretty sure it is an air filter.
