N2 Safety?

I'm getting HPA and my dad is worried about it (I'm only 14). He has a problem with it because nitrogen is a highly flammable gas. Can someone tell me safety precautions companies take and ones that I should take. thanks.

HAHAHAHAHAH

Nitrogen is NOT a highly flamable gas./.. lol...

In fact, our atmosphere is composed of 78% nitrogen!

IF that were true, every time someoen lit a match the world could be incinerated.

They rarely fill tanks with nitrogen anyways. They almost ALWAYS fill it with compressed air.

Compressed air and Nitrogen are just about the same thing. Compressed air is 78.6% nitrogen, and Nitrogen is 100% nitrogen.

Tot he player theres not much of a difference in performance. They're both in a gasious form when stored in the tank.

CO2 is MUCH more dangerous then compressed air as you can burn your skin off with it.

Nitrogen is way safer.

Yup.. I think your good ole dad must have fallen asleep in chemsitry class. He is thinking I am sure of Hydrogen... which is a very unstable and flammable gas.

Nitrogen is as comon as the air we breathe... litterally.

The only real safety issue with HPA is that you will have a highly presurized vessel that you are carrying around. You need to respect your tank. If it fails, it will do so catastropically and can be potentially dangerous to health and welfare. However, as long as you take care of your tank, don't dive on it, and keep it current with hydrotesting, you will have no problems.

Your dad was thinking about Nitrous which can be found in cars, like in the movie The Fast And The Furious, they use NOS (nitrous oxide system), helps burn fuel faster = more horsepower.

That stuff is highly flammable. This is because it is a combination between nitrogen and oxygen which is just like normal air, but with nitrous, the concentration of oxygen is greater which makes it more flammable.

nitrous oxide is not flammable. the way it increases HP is it make the air/fuel mixture super cold, which makes it more dense, which means more fuel for the fire heres some data http://www.americangasgroup.com/html/nitrous_oxide.html

That is FALSE.

The MAIN reason that N20 increases horsepower is because IT IS AN OXIDIZER. It is essentially adding oxygen to the mix.

Anyone who works on cars knows its EASY to add more gas, but much harder to add more air. There is only 3 main ways to add more air: Larger Cubes, Forced (turbo/super), or chemically using N2O.

Yes, N2O is also a refrigerant, and can be used to COOL the air to make it more dense. However, CO2 is much better in this regard. Regardless, the effects are TINY compared to the benefits of N2O as an oxidizer.

So, technically N20 is not flammable. Like O2, its an oxidizer. However, it IS very dangerous since it makes flammable things burn much more intense.

As for Nitrogen? IT is chemically inert, meaning COMPLETELY HARMLESS. Same for HPA and CO2.
