Benefit to fiber over steel?

Is there any benefit to a fiber hpa bottle vs. a steel one other than weight? I am looking at getting a 68/3000. There is like $100 price difference and even if there is a pound or 2 difference, it's not worth $100 to me. I would rather buy 2 more cases of paint.

I realize that steel only comes in 3000psi which is fine because I will be using a 3000psi scuba tank for refills.

the only other thing that i can think of is that the hydro date is 5 years with fiber and only 3 with steel. I would just go with the steel, i have fiber and steel and its not that big of a difference. deffinatly not for $100.

*****the only reason that i have a fiber tank is cuz i got it for free cuz my dad works at the airport and sometimes people have to leave them there because u can't take em on the plane.*****

the first ever nitro tank I used was a steel. I have a steel one right now. I picked up my friends 88/3000 fiber and the 88 was so much lighter. not saying the steel is heavy but fiber wrapped is noticably lighter. fiber wrapped tanks can have a pressure of 4500 instead of 3000 (in case you go to a different filler) plus the flat bottom to my steel tank annoys the heck out of me. my next tank is definately going to be a fiber wrapped but a steel tank is perfect for a starter like me.

Fiber is lighter, and stronger.

Steep is very heavy, and holds much less psi.

I'd reccomend against a steel tank, you'll hate it. I did.

the main problem with steel tanks is that they only come in 47 ci (actually i have seen 45, 48, 50, and 55, but at 3000 psi those few extra ci arent going to give you many more shots, maybe 50 at the most)

47/3000 on a gun with average effeciency would mean about 500 shots. for some people that will last all day, for others it wouldnt be enough for one game. and fiber tanks are lighter, but no one is going to think you are a pansy for having one. sure, most people are capable of carrying a gun with a 5 pound tank on it. but just because you can doesnt mean you have too, and after a long day of running, jumping, sliding, and diving, having the fiber tank sure takes a load off. i would even go as far to say that you would be physically capable of playing longer with a fiber tank than you could with a steel tank.

fiber tanks hold much more air (both volume wise and pressure wise, mean 2 to 4 times more shots per fill) meaning you can play longer without filling up.

so if that isnt enough, i dont know what is. the only reason that steel tanks are really still around is because they are cheap, not everyone can drop $180+ to get some extra consistency and extended o-ring life. if you can afford it though (whether that means having money on hand or working and saving up) i would HIGHLY recommend getting a fiber tank. if you cant afford it, well, youre still allowed to have nitro too

fiber is lighter, that is the main difference, but they are more fragile (hence tank covers)

Would a steel tank be any heavier then say a 20oz CO2 tank?

yes, i dont have one with me but just from previous experience i would say a steel nitro tank weighs as much as 2 full 20 oz co2 tanks... maybe more, maybe less, but again i dont have either with me. but i have used both

I'd say a 47ci steel tank would be a little heavier than a full 20oz. It will also not fire as many shots at the CO2 will.

It seems longer too because of the regulator on the tank as well. I don't have a scale handy, so I can't be sure. I got a fiber 68ci recently (after CO2 and Steel HPA) and it is really light, even with the large regulator attached.

20oz co2 would probably be heavier than 47ci nitro

^I checked this the other day; my 20oz was full, and weighed less than my empty 47ci steel.
Get fiber wrapped, it's just better in t3h long run
