Whoa, don't use it for now.
If the reg is coming loose, then you need to apply some type of thread locker to the threads of the reg/tank. Take it to a pro shop and tell them what's up.
The hydro date is never clearly shown on the tank, but it is on there, you just need to know what to look for. In my ultimate sticky in this forum, there is a link to a site that should tell you how to find out what your hydro test date is.

yeah, if i understand what youre saying, dont play with it, take it to your proshop and ask them what to do, they should have some advice, they could probably tell you the hydro date too

some tanks need to be filled for the pressure to keep the reg on....at least i know i heard that somewhere....anyway definitely take it to someone who knows cause you can't be too careful with pressurized air and metal

lol, how would that work? Woudln't that force the reg off?
No reg should be loose like that on any tank. Just don't use it for now. The tank could turn into a missle.

The hydro date is always stamped into a steel tank. It's usually represented with a pair of two-digit numbers seperated by the letter "A".
For instance, my 72/3k was made in June of '05, so the numbers 06 A 05 are stamped into the tank at the top. There are some other numbers there, like DOT specs and tank numbers and such.

It is true that the pressure helps hold the reg on, but that should never be the ONLY thing holding the reg on, There needs to be some sort of threadlocker on there.
