Recently a buddy of mine gave me all of his paintball gear and I figured sence I have the gear might as well get into the sport. I know nothing about paintball and have a few questions reguarding compressed air tanks. I did a little research and found out that the type of tank he gave me is a HPA tank I also learned that they can be filled with a scuba tank, so that got me thinking I don't got a scuba tank but I have several oxygen tanks for oxy-acetylene cutting torch that I believe are still good just sitting around so what I'm asking is if there would be a way to fill up my tank using those and if so where would I be able to find the proper adapter to use it?
The storage cylinders can be used for high pressure air. Like others stated you should not use oxygen to fill your paintball cylinders. You would have to drain the bottles and then fill with high pressure air (assuming they are filled with O2 at the moment.
If you plan on going to any sanctioned field air is usually included with the fee. So it would be senseless to bring your own.
Also, I would not expect to get many fills of a tank that size. Oxygen tanks are normally pretty small. Finding an adapter to fill with might be an issue also.
Hey ya all, so I was getting ready to sell so,e extra paintball gear I have. I have an extra tank, an Empire compressed air tank, but I noticed it has some cracks in the outside coating. It's 2 years old and still has 1,000 psi in it so it's not leaking. I assume the cracking isn't effecting it but I wasn't sure if it's still good.
Any thoughts on whether it's still good or worth selling?
It is still good. The external coating is simply to maintain aesthetics. However, most likely it will DRASTICALLY hurt the value. Depending on age, contact Empire and they may repair it for you for just cost of shipping, as I know Ninja would (had this done on one of my Ninja tanks that did the same thing). But yes, it is safe to use, and safe to sell, but I would recommend using it with a tank cover if you can't get the coating repaired as if the coating actually chips off and the underlying carbon fiber weave takes damage, it is NOT safe to use any longer.
