doesnt really leak, but itll keep your gun constantly aired up, and with co2, could cause problems

It's better to take it off. Most guns have a s_l_o_w amost undetectable leak somewhere (most likely the cup seal) and you might find your tank nearly empty the next time you want to play. I'm not sure if the constant pressure if left on the gun would hurt or be a boon to average cupseals. One might think that it would cause the seal to conform tighter to the valve, but since the cupseal/pin combo can rotate, the valve seal face would need to be perfect all around for this to work. Best not to risk it.

i was told to take off my tank because it keeps constant tension on the springs and if you keep a tank in for a long time the springs will get messed up.

Thats a negative. The valve spring is always under a slight tension and the gas pressure is pushing the cupseal closed in effect "assisting" the spring. This wouldn't matter since the valve spring is under the same tension with or without pressure. There always is competition between the main and valve spring when the gun is not cocked.... The striker sits against the valve pin because of the main spring and may or may not hold the valve open slightly depending on the strength ratio between the two. Even though the gas pressure is assisting the valve spring in keeping it sealed, if the main spring is strong enough the cup seal will leak if uncocked. If you leave the gun cocked it might weaken the main spring.

*edit* This is the case for Spyder blowbacks and clones. It will probably vary from design to design.
