Question about c02 tanks

My brother's friend was going to send me an awesome c02 tank that I really wanted for only 20 bucks, but then my brother goes: "NOOOOO!!!" And told me not to buy it because if it gets too old then I can't reuse it or something? What are the details on this? My brother said that after five years the tank is unusable, and the kid's tank supposedly only had one year left... Then the kid told me that that's not true, and the tank was only 3 years old.... So I'm confused. Can somebody inform me so I don't get ripped off?

Is it larger than 24 oz? I know that 24 oz dont fall into this category but CO2 tanks larger than a certain size have to be hydroed occasionally. What size is it?

hmmm...maybe your brother knew it wasn't a good tank or something...Or maybe your brother wants it for himself, just ask him why it's not a good deal or something to see why exactly he thinks its bad,he could have a completely bull**** reason...

there should be a date stamped on it somewhere. CO2 tanks have a 5 year hydro. the exceptions are anything 9oz and smaller. they dont have to be tested. but yeah you can find a new tank online for $20 plus shipping

Yeah, but it's made some special way so it's all compressed and it's really small... That's why I was going to buy it.

Anyways, thanks, I'll check out some online ones.

So what does the hydroing mean? They just have to test it to see if the tank is all right or something?

pretty much. hydro testing is a way they check for tiny leaks, stress cracks whatever you want to call them. they also insure that the tank doesnt swell to much when full, which could cause major problems if it occurs.
