An "adjustable air thing" is an adjustable regulator. It allows you to change the input pressure into your marker. Most markers work best on about 800psi however some folks will use a secondary regulator to bring the input pressure down dramatically. Some higher end guns run at less the 250 psi input pressure.

As to your first question - which is the best brand of tank... as is about everything in the paintball world, you get what you pay for. A very common entry level tank is the pure energy which is a very good tank for the money. It also depends on the marker you use. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to pay $300 for a really high end tank if you are shooting a $150 spyder. But if you are using like an e-balded autococker, or any of the high end electro-pnuematics, then yes, invest in a good tank that you can depend on and that fits the balance of the marker.

Aslo, I am sure if you were to SEARCH the air systems threads you would get hundreds of ideas as to what the best tank is.
