Not needed, but totally recommended.

It protects that $80 - $500 tank you just bought from getting scratched or broken.

exactly. A tank cover will make the difference between it passing hydro and not passing.

if ur diving into a bunker and hit a rock, something hard, etc. u would be glad u hav it. b/c when i'm filling air and i see a tank with a big scratch i'm not going to fill it, and most of the time i tell them to go to a local place and make sure it's safe it fill.
