They offer great protection, easy to move in them, they look great, awesome ventilation.
No idea on the '06 JT's

I've had a pair of empire, they took some abuse but not enough, after a couple practices of diving and subsequently sliding my hand across the turf it started ripping holes in the lower palm. I got new empire ones a while ago, they're better and they have rubbery material in the upper palm to help you grip your gun and I can move my fingers well in them.
Gloves are mainly personal preferance, go to the shop and try some on, buy the ones you like.

You ****tin me? Dude, there's the paintball shop in the dark alley of china town. There used to be kapp in San Rafael where Angel Fragoza worked for a while. But try the china town one, and if not you can go across the bay to Operation paintball or the one in Pleasanton.

i am thinking of using dirt bike gloves, i used some jt tourney gloves and they were ok, if you get some be sure to cut the fingers if you dont there way too restricting in your trigger fingers, the diable 13 and heat gloves arent that bad from what i hear

There are three of us in our group of six that own a pair of S.U.G.'s. Sports Utility Gloves that we bought at our local Fleet Farm. Two years of woodsball crawling through God knows what and sliding/falling into things. They have performed over what I thought a 8 dollar pair of gloves would do.

I like my WDP golves well enough. Thin palms for grip, mesh along the sides of every finger, padded knuckles and so forth. Pretty standard features for most any glove I guess.
I wore them in the woods and shreaded the palms pretty good crawling over thorn plants and junk. Hasn't torn completly through yet, but they look damaged now. Makes me sad.

Dye C4/5/6 are super nice.
Proto has some good gloves for cheap.
If you don't like shooting with gloves on.
Take a pair of scissors and cut the fingers off.
