Harness buying guide
I will add on more later tonight.
A Harness is a very important purchase in today’s paintball world, with more and more paint being shot, you need something to hold all of it. Harnesses are a very important piece of equipment in paintball if you shoot a lot of paint. They hold your pods snugly, but loose enough so you can take them out easily and fast. Buying a bad harness can be a bad mistake. This guide can help you determine which harness is for yourself, and how to make sure that the harness that you want really would work well.
Fit
Sure this may sound like a given but it can be bad if you don’t get a harness that fits you perfectly. I have seen kids that don’t have their harnesses tight enough trip when running to different bunkers and eat a face full of dirt. That kid sat out with an icepack on his knee for 2 hours. Make sure the harness fits your waist very snugly, and that it doesn’t slide up or down. Bounce up and down to see if it goes anywhere. Also crouch with it on, and move left and right with it before you buy it. Look in a mirror and make sure you can see any pods sticking out from behind your back too, because it would be very frustrating to get out on a hit to your pods.
Pod Size
I have seen people do it over and over again, the people that have packs that fit 100 round pods, jam 140 round pods into the harness. This can rip part of your harness, or make the pods fall out. Make sure that you buy the right harness for the right size pods you are using. Another factor is to make sure that if you are buying your pods separate, that the pods fit well into the harness and that you can slide them out easily.
Number Of Pods
Before you buy a harness, the next to time go to play paintball, average the amount of paint you use in a round. Think what has been the maximum amount of paint that you have used. You don’t really want to end up getting a harness that holds more pods than you need because it will stick out more, and it will cost more money. I usually shoot 200-300 rounds a game or 500-600 in a tourney so I got a 5-pod pack, since I use 140 count pods. If you shoot 1000 rounds you would want to get an 8-pod pack for 140 pods.
Comfort
This is another important factor when buying a pack. You don’t want to get one that hurts your back after awhile. You want to get one that you can hardly feel and it becomes a part of you since it is comfortable. Having a comfortable pack can increase your maneuverability and the amount of time you are playing. Different companies have different ways of achieving this. For example, the Dye Attack Pack uses a “Lumbar support” pillow to add comfort to the harness. Comfort goes by your personal preference.
Bouncing
This could very well go under another category, but it is so important that is deserves it's own spot. There is nothing more frustrating than having a harness that constantly bounces around while you run, making you uncomfortable while running. Since running is a Very important aspect of the game, you want to look for a harness that will not bounce. When buying a harness, try it on and see how well it fits. Once you have it on, jump around a bit, or do a few sprints across the shop, you may look a little weird, but you will know that it will fit well once you get out on the field.
Remember to not skimp on a harness either. Save up the extra couple of dollars to get the most out of your pack that you can. Some good pack Ideas are:
-System X Tournament Pack
-Redz Dimension Pack
-Dye Attack Pack
-JT Tournramnet Pack
-Empire Pack
-NXE pack
-Extreme Rage pack
