Well, I just recently played for the first time in years and would like to get semi-serious into paintballing. I don't plan on doing tournament play...ever and will mainly be playing woodsball. I really like the feel and look of autocockers and how easily they are to upgrade (most, at least).
Anyways, I've got about $500 to spend on a gun including upgrades, but I'd like to spend less, like $350.
Right now I have an UL barrel, a 4500 nitro tank, mask (not the best, but it'll do), and gloves.
I'm mainly looking at the 04 vertical and the Ion. Any other suggestions? (I plan on going to the local shop and try them out first).
Thanks in advance.
(Edit: Why does the Ion have to be some damned fugly? Anyone know anyways of making it perty?

Well if you truly don't plan on doing tournament play ever (which I don't believe, everyone progresses into speedball eventually ) Then you mech cocker would serve you well, cuz you don't really need much speed in woods.
If you want more bang for your buck, I'd say go for the Ion. 17BPS with break beam eyes as opposed to 10-11 BPS+possible short stroking. I love my autococker and sure they can be money pits but I just love how you can upgrade pretty much anything on em. If your more concerned about speed and such go with the Ion but since you claim to play only woodsball an autococker with slight upgrades should be sufficient.

I don't mind the fact that I'd have to upgrade the autococker a lot, or an autococker a lot. I mean, the more you money and time I put into the gun the more I will love it, care for it and own with it (and perhaps the more I'll sleep with it).
I really like the feel of the autococker and needing to fully pull the trigger. Does the ion feel like an autococker or more like an electronic gun?
Also, I'm not a big fan of speed, I hate wasting paint and call myself a pussy whenever I shoot too many balls cause I'm missing. I think having a slower gun will make me keep accurate, but I'd also like something I can upgrade.
Anyone have other suggestions besides the 04 vert, ion, Defiant, CCM Series 5 and the prostock?
If you don't care about speed, you could pick up a right feed cocker for dirt cheap used, even w/ upgrades, and you could still pimp it out with all the money you save. but beware, you can't put eblades on rightfeeds, so they're no so hot if you plan to play speedball eventually.
Well if you do decide to get an autococker just get a vert feed in case you do decide to e-blade it in the future. You can put an e-blade on a right feed but you can't install the eyes. As for other cocker suggestions look around for a used mech 02 or 03, they should be pretty cheap.

I'm actually stuck between buying one of these two guns as well, so I know how ya feel.
They are coming out with aftermarket shells for the ion, but that's it for the looks.
The ion is faster and electric, but ugly and you'd have to wait for the other aftermarket upgrades.
the 04 is sleek and sexy, very accurate, but slower (unless you get an eblade)
