mini cocker conversion
I just did a mini conversion on my turtled oracle thought I would share the process incase anyone is thinking about it.
First I started off by threading the air port further in so that after it was cut down, I would not have to start new threads. Then I chopped down the front just after ASA air hole. I took a little time with a file to get the final cut level from all sides.
next I added the mini front block w/ 15* ASA
Next I had to shorten and tap the pump arm. This was actually the most challenging part.
Tapping it was easy, but actually making it fit was the challenge. A pump arm has 2 bends as most of you know. so that the force from the ram can be transfered in a straight line for the back block. This pump arm is extreemly short. and it did not line up quite right. I had to bend it alot to get it to funtion correctly. With that short of an arm, it had to be very precise.
The end result I think was worth it. no leaks and its ripping just like it was before I started.
Before
After
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I made a snatch grip out of some leftover aluminum too. can be seen in the last pic.

Seeing as you did that all by yourself, that's pretty sick, but I personally wouldn't spend money mini'ing a turtle cocker... It only takes off about 1/2" off of an already tiny gun!!

before the mini conversion... ropes!
we shall see tomorrow.
drktamer, but an inch and a half. the cool thing is that it just moves the matics in closer. doesn't effect feel or function. only shaved about an ounce. But when it comes to markers. I am a bit of a minimalist.
As soon as I get the MQ, I may midget the back too. we shall see.

One of the nicest looking cockers I've seen. You did a good job on the conversion. Will you be doing this for the public aswell?

i agree, that's very sexy. But i am going to file this under excessive and crazy. I mean, come on, it took me a good 30seconds of staring to determine if it actually did anything.

I have a teammate that we are going to convert a 04 vert to a halfblock mini.
This one I just picked up and was already turtled, but I have full confidence that we can do the entire job ourselves.
I would consider "hooking someone up" but I don't plan on taking in alot of them. I am doing all the work by hand as aposed to using a mill, so the slightest slip up could endup in damaged ano. If someone was truely in need, I can install eblades, drill eye holes, do mini conversions, and soon hopefully do a half block conversion. (that will require anodizing though.)
Bobide,
I would agree that a mini conversion is not for everyone and would problably fall under prefference. I was able to get the total weight (gun/reg/asa) down to 2lb 7oz. making it one of the lightest functional electro cockers I have seen. (MQ should drop another ounce or more. too.) I love the mini, and feel that every cocker should be this way. Others have the exact oposite feeling.
thanks for the feedback guys, I can't wait to mow faces with it tomorrow.

got the tap in, look at it for 2 days before I got the courage up to actually start cutting.
the first cut took about 10 minutes with a hacksaw.
about another 20 minutes with a file and square to get a 90* from all sides.
another 5 with some 2000 grit sand paper and some polish to avoid corosion. (and make it shiney)
The pump arm chewed up and spit out the first die I tried to use. (stainless pumparm) so the pump arm was delayed until I could replace that the following day. Tapped and bent the pump arm. ( because it is so short it had to be bent more to be very precise or it would add friction to the bolt)
All together I think it was somewhere between 4 and 6 hours total over 2 days time. If I did it again, probably 2-3 hours maybe less. I spend alot of time double and tripple checking my work.

Absolutly!
I have been patiently waiting to get a turtle. And I also have a facination with mini's.
I think every cocker should be a mini.
Now I just need an MQ-Valve and it will be complete!
I don't know if you have seen the triggers I made for my ion, (also for an impulse and angel) but those took way more time. This was so much easier than a trigger. the difference is that if I screw up on the trigger, I just throw it away and I am out a few hours and a few cents in aluminum. if I screw up on the cocker... different story!
I am not telling anyone to go out to their garage and grab a hacksaw and start cutting. But it was not as diffacult as I thought it could be.

Did you have to purchase a new bango bolt because of its extra length, or did you just shorten that as well?

not sure what you mean there. I just used the stock banjo bolt (airscrew).
I threaded the passage before I cut it down, so that I would not have to start new threads. (its very diffacult to get it perfectly straight.) after it was threaded I just cut off a little more than an inch of the body.
