That's the ball detent...
I'm not sure if you HAVE to have it, but that's what keeps your balls from falling out.

Actually no. In closed bolt markers, the detent just stops double feeding. Now on open bolt markers it stops them from falling out. In a closed bolt there is nothing to stop your ball from rolling out other than your barrel, unless you get quad detents.

You will probably start chopping a lot, especially if you have a fast hopper. They're only about 10-20 bucks, you should really pick one up.

It depends on the gun and the detent. I generally put a drop of blue loctite on the threads, screw it in all the way, and move the back block. If there's any stick to it, the detent is too far in, and I back it out a little at a time until the back block moves smoothly. Then I let the loctite dry.

you'll need it because then the ball won't jump back up after falling down the feed tube

Yea, you need it. If you didn't have it, then you would have a whole in your body. Dirt can get into that whole.

What? The ball detent prevents from more than one ball feeding when the bolt is in the open position, it has nothing to do with whether, in that time, the ball bounces or is blown back up.

If that was the only reason, you could just as easily tape it up. Or it wouldn't be there in the first place.

im just stating one thing that it would do, and because it doesn't bounce back up it would prevent chops.

Okay, but the ball detent doesn't prevent the ball from bouncing back up.
