problem with gun

Hi, all. I'm new to this place. Anyway, my brother has a Rex M1 cocker-style gun and something is wrong with it. We shot it yesterday and it shoots fine for about 3-5 shots and then either the pressure will drop or it won't shoot. I will not shoot for 2-4 shots and then the next time it actually shoots and shoots 2-4 balls in one shot. Anyone know whats wrong? I know nothing about cockers. Thanks in advance.

try opening up the regs. If it was timing, I dont think it would work good for the first shots either.

do you hear any leaks anywhere?

or are you short stroking? because your supposed to pull the trigger all teh way back and let teh trigger slide all the way back to it's original position. Not doing so could actuate the cocker but not fire. meaning that the ball in teh chamber will move forward and the backblock/bolt will move back letting a ball drop in.

The order of operations is S--F--A--E (Start of trigger, Fire, Actuate, End of trigger)

i dont think we were short stroking cuz 3 different people tried it. is there any way the trigger pull could not be set right and maybe be causing it to short stroke on its own?

yeah changing the order to SAFE rather than SFAE but that means it would short stroke all the time

Your Lug depth is not low enough, or your LPR is too low.

The marker is cocking but the hammer is either not catching the sear or the back block isn't going far enough back. Your getting multiple balls in the barrel because it loads one each time it fails to shoot.

but if the LPR was too low that would mean he would have to cock it back all the way again in order for it to start shooting again.

How dare you!!! Jaggy knows what he's talking about. (lol jp)

If theres enough pressure behind the poppet/cupseal/valve pin (what ever the hell you wanna call it) the hammer wont open the valve, it just sits up aginst it.

Depenting on how his cocking rod is set (probably not correctly) it can feed a ball w/o the lug catching on the sear.

My suggestions: lower the lug, raise the LPR, tighten your frame screws, adjust your cocking rod. Best suggestion: Buy a friggin e blade or race frame.

Maybe get a vid. of what it's doing up so we can be sure EXACTLY what is goin on.

the reason I am saying its not the LPR is because he states that it fires fine, then stops for a few shots, then fine again.

If it was LPR then it be much more irregular. and most likely he would be describing the "burp" when the hammer fails to catch the sear.

Its always tough to tell without holding the marker, I just deal with the facts given.

No question it needs to be timed.

If I could make an educated guess,it sounds like the ball detent is not working right. If the marker is shooting fine for a few shots then stops but fires multiple rounds when it fire next it might be double feeding.Try tightening the detent all the way down. That may do it.

but if it were that, it would still shoot because since it's a closed bolt operation it would only need the burst of air to send the ball flying
