You pull the trigger. A paintball exits the marker. At the same time, the 3-way moves forward and allows air to go to the front of the RAM. This pushes the RAM back which in turn pushes the back block back and allows another paintball to drop into the chamber. You release the trigger, the 3-way moves into its original postion and sends air to the back of the RAM. This pushes the RAM and the back block forward. The bolt takes the ball with it and puts in position for the next trigger pull/cocking cycle.

And it's Quick Exhaust Valves... Not Quick Exit. When the ram has the backblock back, there is air in the side of the ram facing the direction of the barrel. When the air is directed to the other side, the QEVs allow that "old" air to be exhausted from the ram, instead of it being sent back to three way before being released.
