timing isn't too hard, go to www.cockertech.com to find out cocker info. adjusting right and shooting good are another thing; self adjusting for someone new isn't easy, but you eventually get the hang of it. and cockers are like stacked tubes, but not exactly; sorta like a cross between a stacked tube and a pump.
in a nutshell, cockers are different, not neccesarily harder
also, many ppl say the only difference between the 03 & 04 cockers are the price and looks, so you should probably go for the 03.

If you are a noob, then stay away from cockers. But seriously, cockers aren't all that bad to maintan. I have an 03 cocker and like it a lot. I time it every once in a while and then gun works like a champ. If your gun works, don't mess with it. Check out cockertech.com for additional info on timing and whatnot. They have a video on that site as well. read throguh the stickies, and the site I mentioed earlier. Then YOU decide for yourself if you should own a cocker or not.
EDIT: ^^We posted at like the exact same time.

hey i'm in the same boat, 2 years under my belt and ready for something a step up and i have looked around and read alot, thing is cockers aren't really as bad as you think, i know a guy who has a 2003, runs it stock with nitro and revy, and he has never had a problem hsi first gun and everything it's just about patience, be patient and learn the in and outs of your gun and learn to take care of it, if you are willing to learn then it will be fine, but if you aren't then this gun isn't for you, there is a bit of info. to know but read through this forum, also if you ever run into something you know how to do, then just ask don't try to attempt and screw your gun up then ask, always ask before and you'll be fine.

^^ someone has some sense...unless you're weird and just absolutley can't handle having an 03, get an 03. they are the same perfomance wise, lil less milling, and cheaper price. get 03

it's the timing, and working with pneumatics and junk, look through the stickies it will go through the details of each part and how you time, basically to keep maintenance you will just have to pull the bolt pin and bolt out, and clean through then put er back in and you're done. Oh yea clean the bolt itself, and oil the o-rings, also take off your regulator, and then oil the ASA, put your reg back on, then air up and cycle a couple times, that's at the end of the day, and maybe some cleaning of the outer body, but the main thing is if your pneumatics and everything are workign then leave it alone.

well i must admit its a little harder to assemble/disassemble a cocker than to say a spyder. but cockers are the best...
