Help a brother.

Hey guys. I'm looking into getting subs and an amp. Speakers will come later, when I get a couple paychecks. Well I know what subs I want, but I have a couple questions on amps and wire, etc.

Also, I have a panasonic something headunit, I'll go check in a bit if that matters.

Also, I'd like to get everything off ebay, if that matters.

I went out to my car... CQ-DFX701U MOSFET 50x4 So, whatever that means, that's my head unit. And if you guys think that I could go a better way on subs, please lmk.

I looked up reviews for my headunit, and found the specs on it...

Description
- 4-Channel High-Power Amp (50W x 4 max.).
- MOS-FET Output Stage.
- Super High-Defintion Bass (S-HDB).
- 5V High Voltage Front/Rear Dual Preamp-outs (Low Impedance 60 Ohms, Pigtail).
- Non-Fading 5V High Voltage Subwoofer-out (Low Impedance 60 Ohms, Pigtail).

Those are the subs. 400 watts, 800 peak. so 1600 peak. From that, what amp do I need? I don't know the rule. I'm guessing you'd need an amp that is over 1600, but I'm not sure, and that's why I'm asking. I know I must sound dumb, but that is why I'm asking. Also, How much wire do you think I'll need? 2 subs, one amp.

Thanks

That link doesn't work.

Also, no.

Don't add the RMS and the peak together. Get an amp that has a peak of what the speakers can handle, and also has an RMS of what they can handle. Probably a class D digital amp for subs, since they're less power hungry. A/B will work but it will draw more from your electrical system and heat up more as well. You're also going to want to think about the impedance of the subs before you buy anything too (4Ohm, 2 Ohm, Dual Voice Coil, whatever) and think of how you would wire it to the amp.

I fexed the link. And what you said doesn't make any sense to me. I'm a noob when it comes to audio. My buddy is going to install and wire it. Now that the link works, could you just find an amp that would work on ebay for it?

Thanks

if the subs are 400 watts RMS each, you want an amp that is around 800 RMS (a little less wont hurt anything really though). make sure it's rating is RMS, not peak. There is no such thing as a peak rating for an amp, because depending on what is being played, it changes constantly. if the amp is only rated in peak, then dont get it because its a chinese POS

so yea, find similiarly rated, in RMS, subs and amp, and you will have the ideal set up.
