Pondering...
I'm going to buy a different car. Looking for used, and fast...
I was looking at Eclipse GT's, GT Preludes, and Probe GTs. What do you guys think would be best? I'm thinking Eclipse with turbo, a buddy has his up to 500+ and smokes everybody. I don't want to seem like I'm copying, tho. I want to drag it mostly.
But what other kind of cars are fast, but affordable? Another buddy has a civic, but he's a bad driver, and the clutch is all muffed up.
What I'm asking is... What car would you buy, if you wanted to race? But be realistic... lol

Imports can be fast, if you know what your doing and don't waste money on rice. The downside is, you're stuck with a slow P.o.S. until you get quite a few mods done.
If you don't want to go with the ones you mentioned, look into some American muscle. Mustangs (Fox bodies are the cheapest probably), Camaros, stuff like that. I don't know your budget, but a Trans Am WS6 would be sick.
Other imports you can check out would be Subaru WRXs, Nissan 300ZX (my personal fav., especially the TT), or even a Nissan 240SX if you know how to build them up right.
There's a ton of options out there, and a ton of people who have built up the cars you're looking at, so your best bet is to go onto a car forum and start picking their brains.

It's going to be easier to build up a 6 or 8 cylinder then a 4 banger. If what you are looking for is speed, and not mileage, it seems, I would say go all out for the eight.
If you do decide for that, then American muscle should be your choice. You'd be surprised at how cheap you can pick up a used stang or 3rd gen camaro. Jin pretty much hit the nail on the head with those, and seems like those two cars would probably just about do it for you. There is basically an unlimited amount of things you can do to a Chevy smallblock, and is a perfect choice for a buildup. For example...the 5.7 350 chevy TPI motors they put in the third gen camaros generated about 240HP stock and 340lbs/ft of torque. Now, by the time you bring up a four cylinder to those numbers...you've already got a turbo, and theirs not much left to do that wont destroy your wallet other than Nos, and thats like cheating, lol.
Why dont you go to www.summitracing.com and check out their catalog, and order a free catalog by mail? That should give you some ideas on what to upgrade and how much its all gonna run you.

Well, DSMS can be made to stink fast for minimal green. They don't have honda reliability, but they make up for it in speed. You can grab 1st gens for next to nothing now. Hondas aren't really going to move quick unless the car has a motor swap or the LS/VTEC, but those motors are only good for about 30k miles due to the horrid rod-to-stroke ratio. 240s are good cars, but the KA24DE has to have at least a turbo to be pretty quick. Preludes are decent rides, but they are heavy cars. Probes aren't gonna be that quick either. DSMs are the best bang for the buck, but if you have the money, go with whatever you want

Integras can be made to be real quick if you get a GSR. They are pretty light to begin with.

Fox Body Mustang w/ 5.0 or 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird would be your best bet. If you can afford it, a 4th gen Camaro or Firebird with an LT1 or LS1 is even better.
Just because a GSR smoked your 5.0 means nothing, because theres tons of 5.0s that can smoke that GSR. I've smoked GSRs.

that fact that an integra smoked a 5.0 shows to me that integras do have potential. i never said integras are faster than mustangs.

In all honesty if you are looking to build tons of power and basically do all drag racing you can't beat an older 5.0 stang or Camaro. They were pretty light cars that already came with 205-225hp. You can find them for about $3,000 now on the high side and with about a grand or so worth of work you can see 300-350hp. Which is already enough to beat the average 4.6L mustang or 350ci Camaro. If you go really nuts they are easy cars to do motor swaps in too. I met a guy with a Camaro that he stuck a 502 in it. He was making atleast 500RWHP (which is about 575 at the crank), and remember he could always supercharge it for more. Not too shabby. In all honesty there is a limit that most 4/6 cyl import cars can get to without major expensive work, but i've known people that have bought old junkyard V8 motors for about $200, cleaned them up and added some go-fast stuff, and they get extremly high hp. I met a kid that said he bought a junkyard 460ci from a Lincoln, changed some things, and is now making over 600hp with juice. If I remember correctly it cost him less then 10 grand for everything, including the car. In the end it is what you and your friends are into and what is available, be it muscle or import.

if your gonna be draggin, get a rear weell drive car. BIg engine , big rear end, and lotsa low end torque, and dats good. look at te 5.0 stangs 1980-early 90s. most customizable.
