I might buy a 2000 Suzuki ds80 from a friend. We worked on it in auto repair, and ive ridden it alot. Runs great. He'd sell it to me for $175 and my 98c with 14' j&j ceramic(thing collects dust, never use it) which is one hell of a deal. Only problem is I have no where to ride at all. My yard is the size of a speedball field(minus the house and garage) and their are houses all around me. I want to junp on this deal because I will probably find a place to ride and keep ot for a few months fixing it up, and then reselling it making a atleast $200 more then I payed for it.

Now for my question, would it be legal to ride to like a friends house or something on the sidewalk if I put a silencer on it? Thanks

Sorry my friend but most state and city ordinances prohibit the use of motorized vehicles on public sidewalks.

I know in Minnesota if you 16 (maybe even 15) you can ride a moped on the roads, Provided you are wearing a helmet, the moped/bike has proper DOT lights (ie, head light, tail light, turn signals) you will need to check with your state or city ordinances to find out the specifics. But this gives you an idea what you would need to ride it "Legally" to a friends place

I'm goin through the same thing right now, my dad had a spare scooter from his old "store", he just gave me, until i get my restricted/car... If it is less than 50 cc's it doesn't need any special license, just getting a tag on the back... pretty sure at least.
I have to call my DMV anyway, so ill tell you what mine say.

To ride on the street it needs to have a headlight, tail light, turn signals, and be insured. If it doesn't have all those you can't ride it on the street. Then you can go check on the other regs with your local DMV.
