Installing my speakers. *now with pics to help*
so, Im a car newbie.
Im waiting to get my license so I can drive my car. (1990 Subaru Legacy). So I was sitting in it and realized theres some things Ive got to do. One of them, is pop the speakers in.
they are the rear speakers. 6.5 inch. I was checking everything out, and they look like they are basically just a drop in part. like just hop in the trunk and connect the wires and screw em into place. But, with the wires.. is there like a positive and negative wire? and if so, how do you match em up?
also, they are two different speakers. I havent had a good look at em, so I dunno if they are the same watt or not.. if they arent the same watt, is that a problem?
hmm, Ill go out there with the camera and take some pics
alright.. so first of all, heres the car..
then heres one speaker.

heres the face of it
heres the other

then the face of it

if you can't tell from the wires themselves, get a book with a wiring diagram in it (chilton, haynes, etc.) its possible that one wire is black, the other black with a white stripe, or one is black the other red, etc. the speaker itself should be labeled with which side is + and -

get a song with lots of bass and plug one speaker in both ways. whichever way sounds better is the right way. that's about the onyl way it can be done with speakers like those. that's what i had to do with my car.

the only thing switching polarity does is make one speaker move in while the other is moving out. if they are both backwords, they will sound perfect. if they are both right, they will sound perfect. the only thing that would sound bad would be if they played deep bass with different polarities hooked up, and it would sound bad because the bass waves would cancel eachother out. pretty much though, on regular midrange speakers, youre all set
