New Car
Okay so between selling the Jeep, parents helping, and selling stuff/working, I'll have around $5,000 for a new car.
I want a nice "Ricer" car. Something that's pretty quick on accelerating and could exceed 100mph and gets good gas mileage. I don't mind a 4 cylinder just not one that can't top 80 or anything like that.
I'm really looking for Honda Preludes. V-Tech or not they are pretty fast. I'll pretty much take any Honda with a V-Tech.
I'm also looking into Integras.
I don't know what do you guys think?

well, you don't want a civic si with the b16 aka torqueless wonder. Go with a lude. IMO, much nicer than a teg, plus that h22a has a lot more torque. I think you'll be better off with a lude. Plus, everyone has a teg these days, and no one does preludes. Plus, I think from my experience, a lude is one of the only hondas that you can acutally "feel" vtec engaging.

not much into the honda type thing but the prelude is the only one i'd even start to consider buying... dont go with a teg.. my friend has one and it's nothing but problems and it wasnt worth the money he paid for it.. no torque whatsoever, and all that jazz... go with a prelude if you can find one in decent condition.

why, why, why??? why would you want to become one of those wannabe ricer types....? For 5k you could buy yourself something decent that will have real power. Id recomend a used mustang or camaro. V8, and they dont get that bad of gas mileage. If you truly have your heart set on a rice rocket get the prelude i suppose. But dont ever expect to beat the v8s without NOS or a turbo.

Yeah I just can't afford the gas, otherwise I'd pick up a V8 Camaro.
Trust me I'm still looking into Camaros.

you can afford gas for anything. just keep your foot out of it.
Recently purchased myself a Mercedes ML v6. 14 miles to the gallon with my foot in it, other wise, im averaging about 24.
Im currently considering purchasing a civic with a blown motor and dropping a b18 into it and turboeing it to hell and back.

How much does a b18 swap usually run? I kept that in mind. A 1.6L just wouldn't cut it for me.

At my local junkyard we have 3 of them for under $600 with harnesses.
So that seems like a fun little project for me.
Its a good deal as far as price is concerned. But I doubt you are looking for a project car. Your looking for something to drive now right? That is why I got the mercedes, it is my daily driver.
But if you want actual speed, stick with the v8's. Honestly.
You get more out of a v8 for the money than you ever will out of a 4 banger.

Well I turn 16 on May 1st and won't be driving until then. Sooo a project car I wouldn't mind too much but my dad just moved to Detroit and I'd probably need his help. Although I do have friends that could help me.

You could really get a ton of great cars for 5000. Id personally go with a 94-98 gt mustang. You can usually get one for around that price with decent miles on it. Again, its all personal preference and what you want to do in the long run.

Meh, don't want a Poostang.
If anything, I'd get a V8 5.0
Not a POS V6, those are single cam, icky.

I'd just wait around and keep your eyes open for a good deal... You still have a while before you can drive anyways.

Actually 94-95 are 5.0 and the 95 Cobra R is 351W, 96-98 are crappy 4.6s.

I would suggest buying a honda crx.
There were two generations, look for a second gen one (years 88 - 91). You can find them for well under 5k and you'll still have money left over to work with.
There were 3 models...
hf - the gas saver, econo box, 70 hp, lightest of the 3 ~1800pounds, ~ 40mpg
dx - 90hp, 37+mpg, ~ 2000 pounds
si - highest model, 108 hp,~ 2100 pounds, mid 30's mpg
So obviously stock they didnt pack much a punch, but they are small 2 seaters that are tons of fun to drive and it dosent make much to make them fast.
There are plenty of options when it comes to engine swaps, many choose to swap in b16's due to relative low cost. ~$2000 for a swap. Which would put you around 160hp, enough to easily run 14's.
B18's are also an option as well.
they run from 130hp to 200hp depending on which year teg they are pulled out of.
Obviously a type-r swap (b18c5, 200hp) would cost the most. ~ 5k for the swap.
You could also swap in a h22 from a prelude, although it requires a lot more work and effort to get it in when compared to a b series.
There are k series swaps too but the run quite high in price
Or You can also just build up and boost a stock si engine.
No matter what honda you decide to buy i would suggest becoming a member at www.honda-tech.com, search the forums and you'll find all the info you'd ever need for a honda.

yeah well any v8 is still gonna have significantly more hp stock.........and most get 17-18mpg. I say forget the ricer trend.........pay a little more for gas and drive a man's car.
