Engine CAD animation

I found this on streetfire and found it amazing. This is the kind of thing I want to be doing for a living - making computer models of engines, and then putting those models to work.

Streetfire

For those of you who ever needed a visualization to understand how an engine works, this is a great vid. This is a CAD animation of the assembly and operation of a four cylinder fuel injected Ford engine with a single overhead cam. It goes over the basic rotation of the engine first, and then shows you the combustion process. Then it moves onto the way the intake air and exhaust air play a role in the process. After that, it shows the way the cooling process works, followed by the oiling/lubricating system, and also the cam, rocker, valve and valvespring operation. Finally it shows all of the systems working together.

I'm sure you know, but getting to that level of CAD is extremely crazy. I've been working with the Inventor software in my engineering class for about a year and a half now and I can't do anything near as advanced as that. Building each individual part is one thing, but actually putting those together into an assembly file then applying all of the drive constraints is crazy. That would take a long time. Still, really cool though.

Yeah I know it's tough. I took four years of CAD in highschool and I'm now majoring in mechanical Engineering, so I know the complexity of it. I still think it's an awesome visualization for those who never understood how an engine works. Lol, if I had the time and knowhow, I'd attempt to do a model of a Chevy Smallblock

yeah i was thinking abotuthe complexity of it while i was watching it. to make the pieces is hard enough, but to put them all together and get them moving is..increddible
