I think the whole argument is retarded. both cars kick ass, both can be made fast, both can look good, why does everyone have to argue about it? at least they aren't ricers (usually)

V6 Mustang = Chickstang/Poostang
V6 Camaro = Slowmaro
I still think a V6 Camaro would beat a V6 Stang anyday.

I do like mustangs, the new ones are awesome. But... I'm a Camaro guy all the way.
In 1980, my parents bought a '78 Camaro. It was the family car. My step dad was from Wisconsin, so every summer we had to ride there from Georgia. Just imagine that trip in the backseat of a Camaro with your little brother.
Growing up I always wanted to drive it and I hoped that when I turned 16, I would get it. Well that didn't happen. My parents and I didn't get along then, so...
Now I do have the car. It has over 400,000 miles on the original engine. Never been rebuilt. It sat up for a year one time after my brother wrecked it, so it has had a new transmission put in. Overall the car has been wrecked 5 times. Between deer in the road and other stupid drivers. The last time I was driving. A girl was just in front of me in the left lane. She decided to make a right turn... directly across my hood!
The car was down for awhile, but now it's back. I put a whole new front clip on it and it's as strong as ever. Gotta keep that odometer turning!
Edit: My 'Maro has 350 V8, 4 barrel carb and never been babied a day in it's life.

Lol we wont talk about the v6 right now. The mustangs, I see EVERYWHERE! Seriously on the way to my g/f's house I see 12 of them...12 parked at peoples houses on any given day. And she lives 3 miles away. There are only 4 people I know of in this town that own a 3rd gen camaro, and I have not seen any others besides those people. I see mustangs all the time, there must be over 200 in this town alone, its nuts. Imo, why would you want a car that EVERYBODY has? I like the fact of the uniqueness of my car in my area, its cool. Not to mention the fact that I pwn every 302 stang I have raced in this area (five). Biggest Stang engine = 302, biggest Camaro engine = 350

but you dont see a lot of the old ones....... ......and a 302 isnt the biggest stang engine. Ever heard of a 429 cobra jet, how about a 351windsor.........302 is the biggest in NEW stangs........classics have good size engines.

Yeah I mean newer ones. Dont get me wrong, I love the older ones as well. (I still like older camaros better) but the old mustangs still pwn. I'm angry at the new ones, lol.

I don't see more or less than the other here. Usually equal
As for the debate. I like both cars. Just depends on what years. I love the early eras of both cars.
In newer times, I'll take a 87-95 5.0 fox over a Camaro of the same year. 96-98 Mustangs just sucked period all the way around so I'd never get one of those. 99-04 Mustangs are ok. I'll take one as long as it's a Mach 1 or an 03-04 Cobra. But the LS1 years in the TA/Camaro is hard to pass up.
The new Mustangs I really like. Ford seems to finally have worked out all the bugs in their modular line and made the Mustang a better and strong car off the showroom than what it once was.

Like David, it depends on the model and the year. Even if you are a Ford guy you can't deny the 350 small block is probably one of the best engines ever made. It is just such an easy engine to work on and parts are plentiful. You don't need to look for year and code specific parts all the time like you do with a Ford engine. If I was looking for a classic car to fix up, I would have to go Chevy, or a Ford with a Chevy engine.
Comparing the 350 LS1 to the Ford DOHC 4v (especially S/C) though is tough. I bought a '03 Mustang Cobra over a Camaro/F-bird because the supercharged DOHC 4v 281 responds extremely well to cheap bolt-on mods. I'm around a reliable 500hp for less than $2,000 and could have 700hp for less than $6,000 total. For an LS1 to make the same reliable 500hp you need almost $5,000. That isn't just talking bolt-ons either, it needs internal work. Stock the Ford engine and transmission could take more power. But, the Chevy could be built up for more than the Ford engine could take with enough money (though most don't take it that far).
All in all, I can't wait to see what is around the bend. Ford has the mod engines which offer a lot of hp stock and even more from simple bolt on's, (which are becoming plentiful since Ford has had a bit of time alone giving aftermarket companies time to perfect accessories). Chevy has the LS2/LS7, both excellent engines and use an old, but simple and effective design. Dodge has the new HEMI engines, which are all strong performers and combine an older design (OHV) with new technology (D.O.D.) to offer a lot of power with good everyday drivability.
I think we will soon see a HP war that rivals the late 60's/early 70's. However, unlike the cars of old we will make the same if not greater HP with much more efficiency, handling and tightness full blown sports cars of that time could only dream of, and a little luxury thrown in. We loose the simplicity of old, but we do gain a lot. I can't wait for the new Cobra/Mach 1, GTO/Camaro, and Challenger to come out, it is going to be a fun time for American pony/muscle car guys like me. Actually, for all car guys since Subaru, Mitsubishi, and even Dodge are making some extremely fast and good handling inexpensive cars and for the first time there is going to be a Skyline made specifically for American markets. All Good stuff!

1972 mach 1 with a 429 side oiler cobra jet engine. Or how abut a 1974 Mach 1 with a 351 ram air injection motor? All fast..... much faster than the camaros with the 350's. And the ones that had the 454's couldn't touch the 429. Most of the drag cars today, not all, are built out of ford lx mustangs from the 80's. They are light and you can squeeze a stroked 351 into it. Sorry got in late, as for the ls camaro versus the 03 cobra. The cobra came stock to 390hp, combined with a lighter car and the super........ this was the fastest mustang at the time. The new SVT stangs 05' up are supposed to be even faster. Add the 03's stats to what doomsday said and how could the camaro even compete?

It all depends on the year. I would much rather have a Fox body Mustang over a Camaro of the similar year because it's so much easier to find one with a manual trasmission. In the 60's, I'd take the Camaro, but after the 60's, I'd go with the stang, save for the LS1 Camaros.

camaro ss's end in '02, so it's pretty moot to compare them with the much faster '03 cobras. As all pre-'03 cobras get their asses handed to them by SS'. We could even it up, and put a blower on the SS and see how the '03 cobra hangs? or even a few bolt-ons will drop a SS camaro into stock '03 cobra territory. Old factory muscle cars have ugly hp/weight ratio's and are all pigs, despite how badass they look. After I saw the chassis dyno of a stock silverado 1500 with a turbo on a 6.0L truck motor taking 30lbs of boost and throwing down 620rwhp, I do not doubt the internals of any LSx motor. [well when he blew the ring lands out of a couple pistons I kinda doubted 'em lol, but f*ck, thats 30lbs of boost and almost 7000rpm]
camaro ftw
