buying a sporty car- help
ive decided to get myself a nice car cause i busted my truck's 4 wheel drive, rendering it useless in the snow (i had my truckin fun, and i want to get back to my sport car roots)
im looking to spend <$10,000, and some current cars i have in mind are 1) newer model monte carlo, 2) dodge stealth, 3) 3000gt
im also open to cars like lexus and bmw, if they have some nice oomph to them and are cool in a luxury kind of way
so argue away!

3kgt are beat unless you get the SL(?). They are really heavy.

Depends, are you looking for pure performance, or just a sporty look to get around with?
IMO I would go with a C4 Corvette. You can really nab a nice running one for under $10,000. Try to get a '96 one if you decide on that, that is the year the LT4 engine was introduced that put out 330 horses. If you can, you can shoot for the ZR-1 that pushed out 405 horses.

if you go with the 3000gt get the vr4. hard to find but twin turbo v6. insainely fast. one of my friends used to have one until until he took a 30mph 90 degree bend at around 90 and hit the ditch and rolled it.

lol you guys realize im not looking to spend over 10g's right? i like the ideas, but i want something that atleast gets like 15-20 mpg (so far i think the 3000gt is the only thing mentioned that would.. my bad for not mentioning that before)
but yea, i want something that's not necessarilly insanely fast (its a plus though..), but i want it to be faster than your typical ricer... basically a <15.5 second car
nice ideas so far, im glad you're helping me expand my horizons.. keep em coming! thanks dudes

NO NO NO NO NO NO. NO 3000GT. PLEASE NO.
VR4 is decent, but such a heavy *****.
http://www.mitsubishisucks.com/cars/...models/3000gt/
That is all I have to say. I've heard so many horror stories about 3000GTs. I'd hate to see you get something that constantly needs repairs....Which is basically any sports car...But you get what I mean.
Look into a 300ZX. I might be a bit biased, but the cold hard truth is that it's more reliable, makes more power, weighs less, looks better, and is just all around a nicer car. I can't truly give an evaluation on a 3000GT because I honestly have not driven one, but the Z will change your perceptions on what a sports car is.
It'll be hard to find a nice one, but that's the beauty of them. They're so rare and 'expensive' (for their age) that you know the owner took care of it. You would not regret buying a Z.
*Edit* If you do go for a 3000GT, please make sure you check out EVERYTHING on it. Make sure everything is up to par, I'd really hate to see you get something that breaks a month later.

The 951
under 10k, 277HP, plus it's a porsche. Gets good mileage cause it's a four banger. Don't know if that's what you're into, but i can't get enough of 'em.

Looks nice and fun to drive. 277HP out of a 4-banger is impressive for a 1986. Looks like it weighs nothing, too.

Na dude, the C4 will get you around 17city/25highway. That's legit for what you are looking for.

UMMMMM your truck will do better in the snow than those rwd cars you mentioned. If you want something to handle in the snow go with a fwd. The 3000gt is front if I am not mistaken. If you can find one get a 93 RX7...........lol......... 1.3 twin turbo capable of over 400 ponies on a 4 cylinder pluss it is a rotory.

4 cylinder? It's a rotory...
Not that they're bad cars, but have fun paying out the ass for a mechanic that works with rotory engines.

if you're looking at a monte, let me say, good choice. i have a 98, and i love it. it was one of only 2 american cars(along with the mercury mariner) on the most reliable list put out recently, it has great pick-up(8-9 seconds, 0 to 60) with good gas mileage(usually about 20-25 mpg, i drive city and highway). only problem i've had with it is a not so great turning radius. my freind has had one for even longer and has experianced no problems that i know of.
now, im a GM guy for the most part, so im somewhat biased, but still, its a great car. not the muscle car it once signified, but its awesome for the price.
