there's that myth, and then there's the one where everybody thinks anything imported weighs <1k lbs then come to find out their accord weighs but 200lbs less than that "fatass" mustang

parents owned a '95 Contour and a '95 Mustang....both had perennial problems, neither could go 12 months without some sort of multi hundred dollar repairs. Again, its me speaking from personal experience.

'93 jeep cherokee... 250,800 miles
Repairs:
-rebuild (didnt need it but it was getting older and losing power)
-2 rear shocks went at about 240
-water pump at about 242
-exhaust at about 241
-spark plugs/wires/battery
-normal brake repairs whenever they go
-rear yoke (broke because i was doing burnouts)
-transmission flush/differential flushes
-regular oil changes
-new tires as needed
short list for original block/tranny/rear/t-case with 250k if you ask me...
and that off a jeep that i drive like hell with a 2.5l inline 4
american aint so bad.. research helps a lot, but it's kind of a hit and miss thing also...i dont have anything against foreign, but i do hate the people that generalize american cars as crap and their honda/toyota/whatnot could outlast any american car... take a look at the odo's on a few jeeps.. 4.0's or 2.5's and many of them are over 130k with no major problems other than routine maintenance...
nice car dhill.. you got the only toyota i'd buy!

True. Some cars seem to break down after only a few years (what do they call them, lemons or something? like theres some joke or w/e that they were made on a friday when all the workers were tired and ready to get home?) something like that...but some seem to last forever with only minor repairs

Hell, my dads old '86 F-350 was still running this year. It had 246k miles on it. Granted, after it hit 200 we had to put some money into it for repairs, my dads friend did it all. The truck would have lasted another 5 years, but my dad beats the living **** out of his vehicles. So this year we bought a 02 f350. We also have a 92 chevy that still runs fine, just needs some body work. Dont know waht the odo is on that though.
Its really all hit and miss.

Nah, they have their misses too. Everyone does, my cousins brand new Nissan has been back to the shop 8 times already.

Lol yeah worst excuse ever. But heres the thing, even if one of their cars weighs 2500 pounds compared to my 3400 pounds, they dont have the power to back it up. Yeah it's lighter, but the power to weight ratio is substantially different in a Civic compared to my Camaro, so that argument is hardly valid.

My 90f250 has 550,000 and 450,00 on the motor. Cam finally went flat and blew the head gaskets. My grandad had an 80 chev that had 485,000 miles. Usually if you take care of the car it will last. My dad had a 91 forerunner with 225,000 and it was still running when he sold it.

yeah they think 120hp/2500lbs is going to be faster than 250hp/3500lbs. they also fail to take into account torque (then again, your lugnuts require more torque than their motor makes ) or gearing. or driver skill or lack thereof. they also assume their grocery getter was made for "the twisties," which is where 99% of them NEVER go (and even when they do go, they end up locking up the brakes and skidding off the road cuz they thought Initial D was real life)
