Should I sell my car and buy this VR4?
I currently own a 2004 stratus sxt coupe. It has some various bolt ons, such as an intake, header, HSTC, etc. I also had the throttle body and head P&P'd. It is pretty fast for being a N/A 4-banger, and has a potential to make 400+whp if I ever go forced induction. I was saving up for a turbo kit for a while, but I am not sure I want to pursue being that my car is FWD. I saw THIS VR4 for sale and talked to the owner over the phone for a while yesterday. It only has 61K original miles on it and I can get it for $9,500. It's got a few mods and dynoed at 353whp which is around 400 crank horsepower. I was thinking about selling my stratus coupe and buying the VR4. What do you think? I always wanted to make my stratus a sleeper, but I really like the VR4 and it will be much faster than the strat will ever be because it is AWD and manual.
Do you guys think I should turbo my strat, or sell it and get this VR4?

IMO, there are a lot of pros and cons. A buddy of mine bought a 90 DSM that was really built. It was super clean and dynoed at 400+. After a few months there were some mods that had to be fixed and such, so be prepared to spend some money. Any FI'ed car will need repair. Is it and older owner and is he the original. Any idea if he is the kind of person to beat on it?
You're going to sacrifice a fairly new car with warrenty and peace of mind for speed and a little uncertainty. Either way, as long as you're happy, it's all that matters.

I would take the vr-4. They are pretty nice, and AWD is great. Only problem is that the 3000gt's hood is pretty packed and can be hard to work on, and the vr-4 is even worse since they shoved 2 turbos in there.

It's up to you.
*Edit* I must say, the VR4 is one sexy beast (at least from that angle)

In all honesty, keep your '04 and start saving up some cash. If you have something now that is reliable and basically new, why get rid of it?

Truth. I'm not saying they're absolutely horrible cars, I just think you can do a lot better for the money.

I will probably be keeping my strat. I just called my insurance company this morning to get a quote and they told me that they wouldnt even insure a VR4 to someone under 21. I called another company and they wanted 3950/yr for full coverage . Since I will be paying every penny of the insurance myself and it will be under my name, I have decided to rule out the VR4

Just hang onto it for now, there are many other performance cars out there that are MUCH more reliable than a car like that. I had a friend that owned a 1993 vr4 and he just eventually got rid of it because the cost to keep the car running exceeded the cost to buy the car two times.

I wouldn't trust a tt car going for that cheap, personally.

I'd keep the strat. Its looks good right now, and like mentioned before, you have some cash already in her. Plus, you can't go wrong with a turbo kit. Btw, I'd invest in some suspension work. That car would look even better lowered. The rims set it off, but it just seems like there is too much gap.

I can't fit any tire/wheel combo that has an overall diameter that is bigger than stock. I only have about a one finger gap between the top of the tire and the plate on the shock, but I have massive wheel gap. I want to track down whoever designed the wheel wells of my car and slap them in the face. I am actually considering a 1.5" drop, but I can't do it unless I find a truck to drive in the winter next year. I will be at Michigan Tech next year and they get tons of snow, so if I were to lower my car and drive it in the winter, I might get stuck in the snow alot. It snows about 6 inches a day 4 days a week in Houghton and they dont plow until it stops snowing.
Here is a picture of a strat lowered on Eibach pro kit springs and KYB AGX adjustable shocks/struts...

I will end up doing the same suspension setup as this guy if and only if I can find a truck I like to drive in the winter.
Oh and to flowbob, the tints and 35% on the sides and 20% on the back window.
I still can't believe that insurance can cost $3950/yr for someone with no accidents, no tickets, no points, and no claims at all .
