**** yeah
Well my friend is picking up a 240sx for 400 bucks. It needs a fuel pump but it runs fine. It's pretty damn clean too and a 5speed. It's going to be one hell of a project car, drifter baby.

rofl get a fuel pump from the junkyard? im sorry but that is the most idiotic thing i've ever heard.
i work in a garage, fuel pumps COST about 100 for a bare pump, and about 400$ for the complete assembly. But the labor charge is alot because mechanics hate doing that job. Gonna be about $150 in labor, at least

His dad is a mechanic. He changes them out all the time. As far as I know just the pump is needed. And why is it idiotic to get one from a junkyard? We got one for our Chrysler Cirrus at a junkyard...

there are a lot of different fuel pumps. I can get one for a 5.0 mustang for under 70 bucks. I really doubt the company is making them for $100 and selling them for $30 less than that. And it also depends on what kind of car it is. My mustang, all it took was dropping the tank, twisting the fuel pump out, replacing it with the new one, and putting the tank back up. hour job at most. the job that mechanics hate is a heater core on a car with a/c

it's idiotic to get a part like that at a junkyard because you have no idea how that thing was run. it would be worth the extra $ to get a brand new one, rather than run the chance ofthe pump going bad immediately or within a few miles (or even few hundred miles). not everything should be bought from a junkyard bud

are u kidding? u dont get something like that from a junkyard. You get things at a junkyard when the cost of something new is about 5 times the cost of it used. Like a tranny, engine, ac compressor. The average cost of a fuel pump is 100$. Some are 50$ some are $150. Is it worth it to get one out of a junkyard for 50$? last time i checked a fuel pump is kinda important.
-zpyro, we only do heater cores on GM's, o boy are they fun
but really fuel pump jobs are hell. you always end up smelling like gas, get dirt and rust in your eyes and your hair. nasty nasty stuff. But nothing is as bad as working on a FWD v8

I was going to post, "That's almost as gay as 1337's turbo prelude idea," but I decided I don't not like 1337 so....

Well at Pick-N-Pull everything is prepped before it's put out. We found a Stratus with 43k miles and pulled the fuel pump out. When they get the cars they empty all the gas and what not. It wasn't from a ghetto ass junkyard, it was from a junkyard where you go in, pick out the **** you want, and pay close to nothing for it. Best place in the world.
Plus this all went down when we were down to one car after the other one got repo'd. My dad had no money and couldn't afford to buy a new one for a Chyrsler Cirrus for $250...

that still doesn't tell you how the car was run. for all you know, they could have gotten that fuel pump from a car at pick n pull with 150k on it, drove it another 20k then wrecked the car. now you've got a pump with 170k on it, that you think has only 43k. also, you can't tell if the pump runs well or not without testing it, which i'm sure you didn't until it was put in the car
with something like that, as I said, you want to buy a new (or rebuilt at least) one. it just doesn't make sense to take the chance of getting one that will crap out on you that much sooner and having to do the job all over again

Well it made our car run like an almost brand new car. Plus if they give you a bad part, you get a refund.
But I know what you mean on the whole doing the job again..

....... ok........ leet...... think about it, the old one went bad for a reason, so your gonna replace it with an old one just like it? i hope u know fuel pumps run fantastic until the day they go bad.
Just think about it this way, when we have a cheap-skate customer at my dads garage, and they have a ball joint go bad, we tell them they should have us do the other side too, cause murphy's law (i think its murphy's) says if the left side went bad, so will the right side soon enough, even though it looks and performs fine, since the other side went bad this one shouldnt be far behind it. Well, they are too cheap, and say no thanks. they are always back in a couple months cause the other side is starting to act up

It's nothing like that.
And goddamn normally yeah I would buy a new or low-mileage part to replace it with. We took the risk and it made our car run a lot better. So just get off my nuts, okay?
