262xxx miles and running strong

three years ago my mom bought this chevy astro van for $1500, we needed something to haul around hottubs for the family business. ran flawlessly. then about 2 years ago we moved from central missouri to northeast ohio, a 10 hour drive and we got here in 8. the only thing that has ever gona wrong with it was the left balljoint, which cost about $400-$500 to be replaced. other than that and regular matience like oil tires etc the van has run perfectly. yesterday we took it to get emissions checked, and passes everything to our surprize. im not sure how long it will last but its at 262,128 miles and running better than when we bought it. its a 4.3 liter btw. any comments on this hella high mileage?

That's the same engine they put in the Blazers in '88. It replaced the chevy 250. It's based off the Vortec 350ci design, it's a solid engine. Should go for a long time if treated right.

thats good to hear though the mileage will most likely screw us over if my mom decides to sell it.

i remember pulling 3 hottubs with this thing, they were all on theyre side and we had to drive through part of downtown st. louis, what a site!

That was my ex-girlfriends first car. Hers had over 300,000 miles before she got rid of it. It's amazing how long some engines can last with proper maitanence and care. My dad had an old CJ-5 when I was younger with an AMC 304 that lasted over 400,000 miles before he rebuilt it.

i hear the GM 4-cylinder called the "iron duke" that was made in the 70's was supposed to las forever. Alot of mechanics tell me it is argued to be one the most reliable engines ever made.

yay for GM engineering

not everyone. I don't care for one car company over another, especially when it comes to domestics. There's no "better" company. otherwise the worse one just wouldn't exist. both ford and gm are losin money to imports anyways
