I didn't have work today so I got a bit bored sitting around. I decided to do something I always wanted to do since I was about 10, paint the deck of my old Go-ped. So, I ran out to pep-boys, bought a can of blue metalic, two cans of clear, a small can of chrome, sanding blocks, and some blue tape.
I started by sanding down the deck to get the varnish off and get it pretty smooth. Went from 80 grit, to 100 grit, to 320 grit, and then cleaned it off with thinner.
Next I put on 3 light coats of the blue, followed by four light coats of clear and one heavy coat of clear. Then I taped off the top and bottom and put two coats of chrome along the edge with three coats of clear. After it dried I did a quick hand polishing and threw some wax on.
Other than a few nicks already in the wood (which I should have fixed with filler) it came out amazing, better than the factory paint on my car. Almost a shame to step on it. I couldn't believe a rattle can could do such nice work.
Here's what you've been waiting for:
The whole sha-bang-a-bang.
Nice metalic finish and very little orange peel.
Nice and smooth.
The chrome on the edge breaks it up nicely.
