Project LT1

So my heart is set on an LT1 fbody. Might be getting one within the week, if not then sometime after school starts I suppose.

Just want some opinions here.. First things first, cold air intake. After that, move onto exhuast.

Now, depending on money, I'll need an affordable exhuast setup. Headers will be the most expensive, but I might just leave stock headers. I was thinking straight pipes with flowmaster 80 series on 3.5in piping. Maybe run a cutout as well. Emissions aren't a huge deal in Kansas, hell some people get away with open headers.

Next would be a cam.. no idea on what cam to get and should I get new rollers and lifters and what not? I can get a whole kit for like $700, so it would take a while to get that.

My goal would be low-13s. Pretty decent goal to acheive I think.

After all that probably just a few little drivetrain options.. maybe a hurst shifter or something.

What do you guys think?

Start with the basics:

1. Intake
2. Underdrive pulleys
3. Gears
4. Headers (and the rest of the exhaust)
5. cooler thermostat
(Get it tuned properly too.)

That should get you around 300-340hp and be enough for 13 second runs, maybe low 13 second runs with a good driver and slicks.

Then if that isn't fast enough for you, you can do heads, cam, valve springs, rocker arms, ect.

but i say skip the bolt ons. Start with a hefty cam, roller rockers, and ported heads. that should get you to your goal easily. make sure to get a tune.

yea roller rockers arent really needed, and ported heads for a Small block chevy is kinda waste, you can get a real nice new set of aluminum heads for 1000$, and a real nice port job is around 600 i think, im not sure though.

if you just want noise, just putting a 80$ flowmaster on there will do the job just fine

then id sugest getting pulleys (15hp for 50$ is pretty good)
next best thing you could do is a cam made for your motor ($245, around 40hp)
then if you really want some scream in the motor get some heads,

First things first, a CAI. I had a Moroso on mine.

Next, Jet Hot coated longtubes, and either true duals dumped before the axle or an off-road y pipe with a good (read: not Flowmaster) catback. Flowmasters are one of the worst flowing catbacks for F-Bodies. I'd recommend Magnaflow.

After that, get a good tune and have the rear o2's taken out so you don't have a SES.

You're not going to get near what you expect if you don't already have the bolt-ons taken care of. The stock motor can barely breath through the stock manifolds, let alone a H/C motor.

when i say bolt ons i usually dont include headers. I'm talking like intake, pullies, electric fans, throttle bodies, etc. of course he'd want to get headers along with the cam. If he gets the headers first, he can choose a cam that fits the exhaust flow.

I was thinking about Jet Hot longtubes, 3.5in ypipe and flowmaster 80's mufflers. Might just run straight pipes but yeah I know that flowmaster cats aren't that great. Magnaflow has good **** but I just don't know if I would like the sound.

Magnaflow sounds better than Flowmaster...if you want the best sound go with a GMMG.

I dunno every Camaro I've heard with magnaflow, I wasn't a huge fan. Maybe its just the piping or something though.

go with the jet hot long tubes, no cats, into magnaflow mufflers. or the longtubes, magnaflow high flow cats, and no mufflers. I'm running cats with no mufflers on my truck and i love the way it sounds

Doesn't flowmaster still have the 10 series mufflers?

So basically you said the same exact thing as me, but before you were saying skip the bolt-ons?

The Flowmaster for F-Bodies is an 80 series, which is single inlet/dual outlet.
