Dirtbike Project
I wanted to tear down my 2000 Suzuki DS80 and repaint the frame along with some other parts for awhile now, not only to look good and be one of a kind but also for resale value. With summer here I figured id start this project. Im going with a metallic blue color much like Doomsday's Go Ped deck. I did the same with my blaster years ago and it turned out great. Welcome to the project, ill have daily updates with pics.
Heres what I started with:
Day 1: The Teardown
The teardown was a piece of cake. I labeled all the parts and bagged the various nuts/bolts/pins so I dont lose anything and to make for a faster rebuild. After it was all apart I had to clean the frame up of dirt and crud before sanding. It was a *****, the dirt clung to the bends on the frame and all the hard to reach areas, and took me about 3 clean and rinse cycles. After it all cleaned up I took a heavy brillo pad and rubbed the whole frame down to break up the black paint and clear coat. Heres the end result for today: 
The brillo pad did a very good job but tomorrow I may take some sandpaper to the frame, clean and be ready for paint.

nice to see ur not gonna be a lazy guy and just go at it with spray paint while its assembled.
if you just want to scuff something up to prep it for paint, scotch-brite is awesome.

Me too! 
Id never do that. Makes the bike look worse and drops the value. Actually ive never known anyone that did that to their bike or quad, they too tore it all down.

sweet....keep us posted...for a higher resale value id get new tires or shine the old ones...its a good way for extra $$ and to ge the scraches out of the plastics slightly scrape down to the scrach with a razor blade hen rub SOS pads on to it and it looks sooo much better. i had to sell my tt-r 125 and i tried doing htat and it looked way better

Oh, Im not just painting the frame. I have some other things in mind too. I might try the scratch thing you said, what do the sos pads do to it?

the sos pads act as sand paper-ish. hen even out the scraches done by the razor. heres a demonstration...

Day 2: Paint
Painted today. Got some Krylon X Metal or whatever in silver base coat and a metallic blue along with some clear coat. First put down some silver base coat on the frame, probably 2-3 coats, I dont remember, Then went at it with the blue. It looks ****ing amazing in the sun it shines and sparkles great. I took the pic in the dark but ill get some shots of it in the sun tomorrow.
I also painted my bars and swingarm plain primer then did the silver Krylon basecoat and im happy with how they turned out. Pics of those tomorrow.

85 and were u talking to me with the exhaust...o and the previous owner of my bike raced it so he had a bunch of ups on it but i know this thing rips alot better then a stock kx85

The bike is totally back together. The blue paint and yellow fenders look amazing together. Its always so damn sunny, and you cant see ****, ill try to get some good ones tomorrow.
