yay! got a truck today
Like the title says...I got a truck today and really like it. If you don't care how I found it or whatever...just scroll down.
Anywho...yesterday, me and my mom went to get groceries and I was getting some driving time in for my license (get it on Tuesday..b-day is Monday but DMV is closed). When we are heading home, we pass through a town that is about 8 miles from the town I live in and I look over and see a nice looking Ram in a used car lot and see a tag thing handing from the rearview mirror. Since we are in town, we are only going about 35 and I get a glance at the price...$3,750. I didn't think that's what I saw considering it looked like it was in really good condition...so I turn around, which pisses my mom off because she has no idea what I am doing. I pull into the lot and get out to see the price...$3,750. I was shocked...the truck was in really good condition, has diamond plating running boards, bed cover, and I only saw a few dings...nothing bad though.
My mom gets out and gets looking at it and says it's pretty nice and a really good deal, so we go in and talk to the guy and he said to come back later when the owner is in to work out a deal.
Well, this morning, my mom, dad, and I go back to the lot to get a better look at the truck and give it a test drive. My dad has a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500...same exact engine as this one. His only has about 60k miles...this one has 118k. He drives it for a couple minutes to see if everything feels good, and actually says it runs a little better than his. I get in and drive it...really liked it.
Anywo...we go back and try to talk the guy down some but he was pretty stiff on the price. We ended up talking him down to $3,657 with sales tax, license, registration...everything. Pretty damn good deal IMO considering how well it ran and how good it looked. The old owner of the truck works there and we started talking to him...he said he never had a problem with it or anything...just didn't want a truck anymore.
My only complaint is that the speakers suck and it doesn't have a CD player...but oh well. I will most likely me replacing those later on this summer or early fall.
Anywho...this thread is worthless without pictures....so here they are.
It's a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport. 5.2L V8. Does aybody know how many horse power/torque these have? I looked in the manual but couldn't find it.

nice truck man. It sould last you a bit but like most 5.2, they run good until stuff starts breaking, and then its downhill really quck. It was prolly so cheap cuz thats a 2wd sport. By the sounds of it, you didnt get the sound package, which includes a nicer infinity stereo. You prolly got the cheap one, but thats easily replaceable. Nice truck dude.

Leave the running boards.
Did you pay for it or did your mom and dad?

Yea...the system sucks. My dad's Ram has a really nice system, probably the infinity one you are talking about.
I plan on taking off the running boards and getting some nerf bars sometime after I put in a stereo and some decent speakers. I also plan on getting some straight pipes put in soon since a place about 15 minutes from where I live can do them for about 200 and they sound great.
Alpha - I had close to a grand and for my 16th birthday my parents are giving me a grand...I owe them about 1600. My dad said that if I don't pay them at least 100 bucks a month, they are going to take away the keys.

Yea...well, did. The money that I had was saved up from last summer/winter from working at a golf course and just doing odd jobs. On Monday I am going to pick up a couple applications for jobs near where I live. I don't have to pay anything this month...first payment due sometime in July...I will probably do it with the first 100 bucks I get, then use the rest on paintball, gas, and stereo for the truck...also save a little.

Good lookin rig.
Since its 2wd, dont waste the $$ on a lift, or stuff like that. Straight pipes sounds like a godo upgrade, aswell as a k&n. Gas might get to ya though.
All in all, Great find.

Yea...I wasn't going to do any major modifications or upgrades to it. Lifting this thing would be really pointless for a couple reasons. Main one being it's only 2wd...then the other one being I know I won't do any offroading and can't afford big tires. The first thing I am going to do is straights. Guy down the street has a truck pretty similar to mine with straights and I love how it sounds. After that I am going to focus on the system. Then I will most likely get nerf bars and get rid of the running boards. I might get a k&n...but don't know. I'm not really going to put much money into performance parts since it has enough power for me as it is right now.
Although, it does need a new set of tires. I would say there is about another 5k miles on these tires until I need to replace them, so that will probably come before I do anything else.
Thanks for the comments/suggestions.

Im looking at a S10 Extended Cab 4WD with 4.3 liter V6 High Output motor. Truck looks great and still drivable, but needs a headgasket, which means ill have to replace both. Nice find man. Thats a sweet truck.

Nice lookin truck man. I have an exhaust system on my ram and it is awesome. Save up a little bit and get some glass packs for the exahust and have them put on when you get the exahust put on. It makes it sound even better.

Last week on the early show they said that dodge ram 1500's were the third most stolen vehicle..... good luck keeping it lol.
edit- and for fun the second most stolen was a Lancer, and the first was escalades(or navigator, one of them).

Really? **** lol. Guess I will be saving up for an alarm system or something lol. Na, I'm not worried about it. I should get a sticker made or something and put it in my back window that says "my cousin is a cop...steal this and your ****ed"...which is true...so yay! lol
