The heater core I need is only about $30 so doing this myself will save alot of money. Ive been working on getting the bad one out and have run into some problems. pics-
there is the heater core that i need to yank out
now the hoses connect where those copper pipes are. I cant seem to pull this thing out anymore so how can i get enough slack to disconnect the hoses? Also im assuming im going to need to drain out all of the antifreeze before i do this so how would i go about doing that? thanks!

hmm, thats not the gm heater core im familiar with, but if its anything like the core job ive done 100 times (on smaller gm's like a cavilier) then those hoses have clamps, that are found under the hood, against the firewall. With my experience they are way easier to get from underneath the car.
and the fact its copper is odd for that generation of car. Dont freak out when your replacement is aluminum, it should be fine

thanks man, i just got back from Napa and the guy showed me some tips and what i should be doing. He said that I should take the hoses off from the engine area like you said, and that all of the antifreeze would spew out so get buckets ready. Now im not too sure if I should be doing this on my own or what. The guy at napa reccomended someone that will do it for about $150 but im still not sure about doing this on my own

i guess it depends on the car, but most of the heater cores i have done, not much antifreeze came pouring out. And just so u know, usually, not always but usually, those copper tubes coming off of it are WAY long,

my cars actually doing the exact same thing.
I'll drive it about 5-10 miles, stop it, and pop the hood. Its smoking and anitfreeze is squirting out of one spot.
I need to get it fixed this week, guesstimate on how much I'm going to have to drop?

I'm pretty sure the actual antifreeze is just coming out of a hose.

When you fill your radiator the car needs to be running and up to normal temperature so the thermostat will be open and the waterpump running so that you can get a complete fill. If the car is cold, it will look like you filled it but the first time you drive it the coolant level will drop when the thermostat opens.

and if you're buying unmixed coolant, mix it with distilled water.. not tap water...
