New To Cars, Camaros, etc.
Im 16 years old (nearly 17) and will be getting my license soon (i waited a looong time for my permit)...
anyway, i didn't think much of cars besides they got you from one place to another, yeah i wanted one, but i really wasn't too picky.
Then...i went to a drag race down at orlando speed world. I sat in the passenger seat of my friends' 97 mustang with nitrous, etc. and had a blast. I got the crash course in cars, racing, and mechanics, and fell in love with Camaro's. American Muscle FTW!
I have a part time job and am looking to buy a used Camaro for under $5,000. Im not too specific on terms of Auto/Manual, V6 or V8, etc.
I know i want something with under 100k miles, something that i can pay off easily, and something that doesn't kill insurance rates. (no im not spoiled, i have to pay for everything)
Take a look at these few links of Camaro's near me and let me know if there are any details about the Model Year, etc. that i need to know before going and test driving.

Any help will be appreciated!

The 305 is really underpowered, as are the V6s. For 5k your best bet would be to find a 93-95 Camaro/Trans-Am with an LT1, automatic if you plan on running at the strip.

I could trade a '96 Nissan pickup for a '86 z-28 iroc camaro. But its just a 305 or I would definitely go for it.

If you are willing to put out the money for the second link, go for it, as long as it's an LT1 V8. Although you could probably be picky, shop around and get a better deal.
That price for the 3rd gen in the first link is a great deal. Sure, 305's dont have as much potential as a 350, but down the line, he can most certainly drop in a crate engine for cheap and be on top powerwise for about 3000$ total. HOWEVER! Do your research. If that 3rd gen in the first picture has a Throttle Body Injection (similar to carbureated, except its a very weak system) engine, it will only run you about 170hp at the crank. These cars were WAYYYYY underpowered. If it is a Tuned Port Injection (TPI - Fuel injected) intake, then you are talking about 210-230hp crank. Don't even give it a second look if it is a TBI, NOT the place to start a powerplant.
It's easy to spot a TPI engine
TPI =
TBI =
Do some research before hopping into this.

i see...
so a v8 could be a 305, or a 350 (LT1 being the 1993-97 350's, and LS1 being the 98-02 350's)
honestly, i dont need ultimate power. Reliability and looks are weighted more in my book than performance, as i am not racing this thing besides against my friends just for fun.
btw: the 2nd link is a v6

Okay, the reason I went into detail was because you seemed like you were going to be into the racing thing.
That first car, if damage and rust free, would make a good car for you then. Price is right.

i love the first one. i was looking at getting an 85. it had similar styling. the 305's are great for modding and i think theyre just downright sexy. plus for the price you cant beat it

I wouldn't say they are great, seeing as it is just as easy to get your hands on a 350, which is a MUCH better foundation. 305's just don't have as much potential.

a 305 cubic centimeter engine is FINE for me haha.
even a v6 engine would be fine. 200 ponies stock is really enough for me.
Just to make it sound a little manlier, i could install a decent aftermarket exhaust system for under $400 if i wanted...
right now its between the 1st link and 3rd, although im looking at firebirds and also other cars right now that are local and cheap.

A V6 usually won't sound good at all.

dont get a 305. thats a weak motor and u cant do much with it. you can do soooooo much with a 350 man. trust me, you will be kicking yourself later on if you get a 305, especially if u wanna race it
ill sell you a 502 chevvy big block ive had since ive been 17. its just the block, but if u get it done it will make your car SCREAM. i was saving it in the hopes of buying a chevvy 2 or vette and dropping it in there but now i want a fastback and i have other plans for that.
edit: are you dead set on a camero? i would look around, you would be suprised on what you can find in ur price range
