Hummer
http://www.gmplanet.com/hummer/humme...ish_000793.asp
Why don't they give the H3 some balls instead of stiched leather seats? The H3 could be an excellent suv. It handles better off road than the H2 (and some say better than the H1), comes in a manual transmission, has a solid axel and leaf springs so it is easy to lift, has plenty of room inside, ect. It's a shame they ruined it with that underpowered inline five, that is supposed to get the gas mileage of a four cyl, but can barely muster that of an 8. Poor GM, it's no wonder your going down the tubes. A little DoD V8 or Inline 6 turbo diesel in there would have made it sell like crazy. Instead they go for the bling, stuff that makes it even slower.

All they could of done is offer an optional turboed I6 diesel that would of been a big jump off the sticker price. Problem is alot of people say the H2 is responsible for high gas prices, which of course isnt true, but GM doesnt want that rep

why does GM keep trying with that 5 cyclinder? I mean wtf it hasnt worked in anything else why will it work in the H3? Its probably the worst current american made engine.
yea we would all love that thing to have a little diesel or maybe a v8. GM blinging it out isnt really a bad thing tho. Because there is sooo many people that dont care about anything besides the bling.

i'd have to say gm probably cant make an inline engine worth a ****.. sucks for them that the 4.0 is chryslers property... i'd say the award goes to them for best american inline..

yea but chevy does take the cake for v8's. I know that might sound like opinion, but hey go to any local short track, 95% of the engines will be chevy. Hell around here its 100%

i dont know about you, but a 426 is a pretty ballsy engine. I think the only thing chevy has that could rip everything else to pieces is that 572 monster.

yea but that 426 is just one engine, and its pretty rare. All mopar had was the 426 and the 440. Fords only real bullets are the 5.0 and 351, they made big blocks but nothing really stuck, and compared to chevy not much made it to the racing community.
look in summitracing or jegs, and you'll see that 80% of the aftermarket engine parts are for chevys. They are just designed so practical
chevy small blocks that can win races range from the 302-327-350-383-400-427-454 now thats alot of range for just one block design
big blocks go from 396-427-454-502-572-and ive think the biggest ive seen was an 838
yea chevy's 572 crate motor is supposed to be insane. and now they got the ls7 which can be ordered at any chevy dealership.
Dodge is getting close with the new hemi's they have out, as far as hp and technology goes, but nothing will ever compare to the chevy v8's.
and chrysler sure does pwn the inlines though, i drove a I6 diesel dodge pick up, turboed, fun stuff

i agree that it sucks that hummers arent even used for the reason they came on the planet....but its whatever, it is true that most people who buy them arent people looking to go offroading or anything, but would rather have a big ass vehicle that looks good.

Fords popular V8 engines include the old flatheads, 289, 5.0L, the 351W, the 351C, the 427 hi, mid, and low rise, the 428, the 429, the 460 (which was Fords version of the 454), and the engine that was so good it was banned from racing, the 427 SOHC. It produced more power then any other factory race engine at the time, easily destroying the 426 Hemi's that dominated NASCAR races. If it wasn't banned it would probably be a lot more popular.
There are tons of people out there that work on Ford engines now and Ford crate motors have gotten a lot more popular in recent times. Years ago really the only option was Chevy because they were the only company you could buy warranted crate motors from, now you can buy Ford Racing or Mopar crate engines as well. Ford has a street 520 crate motor that makes more hp than Chevy's street 572.
Now, Chevy does make a good inline motor. The inline 5 in the Hummer is actually the inline 6 they use in the Trailblazer/Envoy with one cylinder lopped off. The six has been on Wards 10 best list every year since, I think, 2002. The Inline 5 works fine in the lighter Canyon/Colorado, but in the much heavier hummer (which is on the same frame) it fails. They should have just given it the whole motor.
As to the off-road capability, the H2 is horrible off road being based on the Tahoe chassis, however the H3 has been reported as being better than the pre-2007 Jeep Wrangler on and off road. Shame they “pussed out” with the engine.
