I love diesel.

Right now in NJ diesel is about 20 cents cheaper than gas and it gets 30-50% better mileage.

Case in point. We have a 1995 diesel Suburban. 42 gallon fuel tank. Everytime we fill it up it's about $10 cheaper then gas. Now, the big block gas motor that was also availible as an option gets around 12mpg highway, the diesel gets around 22. So we get almost double the mileage as well. Especially when towing. That means we save atleast $50 from that.

$60 saved everytime you fill up isn't a bad deal. If you fill up once a week for a year you save $3,120

Now, these are all rough estimates, but it makes you think:

Diesel really is the way to go.

idk about a diesel burb getting 22 mpg, but i do agree on some of your previous posts stating that a diesel engine is more effiecent than gas because it makes more power at a lower RPM.

Yup, 22-23mpg. It would go down if it had the 4.10 rear, but it would still get around 20. That's better then a lot of cars, never mind a 4,600lb suv.

The Jetta TDI actually gets better highway mileage than Toyota and Honda's hybrid cars. Not only that, there is no need to replace batteries or electric motors.

diesel here is like 30-40 cents higher right now, used to be dirt cheap. And my F-250 loves to drink it. I get around 17-18 mpg tho, not too bad for a big truck. I'm in no way angry or gettin rid of it tho, I <3 it, especially w/ the 7.3

That's good for a few miles alone, but try driving 600 miles with some luggage like I do.

Jeep should make the wrangler available in diesel, it would sell great. They are making the liberty in diesel, but thats it for now. I'd buy another wrangler for my next vehicle if they make it in diesel. Im only getting about 15mpg highway with my YJ with the 4.6L stroker now. Not a great car to drive 575 miles each way to college, but I've put too much money in it to sell it.

They do make it in diesel, they just don't sell it in the states. There are a lot of great cars sold in other countries that we can't get due to emmissions or crash test problems.

that burban is only rated for 15c/18h mpg, but im sure with all that power down low, u can do all ur driving below 2000rpms, and those rpms dont require much fuel

That's with the 4.10 rear, our's has got 3.55s which was an option. With the 4.10's they get around 19-20mpg after being broken in, with 3.55s they do better. That's another nice thing about diesels, then tend to get better mileage after the first 5,000 miles or so.

Nah, just run the proper winter oil and it starts right up. In fact, one year when we went snowmobiling and it got down to -20 ours was the only diesel truck that would start and we didn't even have it plugged in. A dodge was actually the worst, we went to breakfast and came back and he was still under there with a blowdryer (and later a torch) trying to heat everything up.

After the first 5,000 miles mileage picks up. Not every additional 5,000 miles.

Not true with modern diesel engines.

Here is some good info: http://www.stealthtdi.com/Emissions.html
