Just got your license? Like fast cars? Look here.

If you are looking to buy your first car, don't get a sports car or a brand new car. I made that mistake when I was young. Let me give you some things to think about.

1. If you are a new driver chances are you will be parking your car in the school parking lot or out on the street by school. Your car will get messed with, scratched, bumped, ect. Anytime you put together 50+ kids who just got their license parking in tight spots you're going to have trouble. It's a shame to ruin a nice car like this. Remember, it isn't just you on the road. There are lots of other people out there who suck at driving.

2. Insurance is a big killer on both new cars and sporty cars. I bought my car without thinking ahead about insurance. The first quote I got was for $9,000 a year with a supercharged mustang, and that was under my parents name! Suffice to say my father wasn't to happy with that.

3. Gas, if you buy a powerful car you and the gas station attendant will become friends real fast, especially if you can't stay off the pedal.

4. Teens generally love to drive too fast and/or race, that's a given. They also tend to have the attention span of a goldfish. A lot of HP in a car can turn nasty quick, especially for an inexperienced driver. Sure, on good roads you may be fine, but a little rain or snow and it's easy to wrap yourself around a telephone poll. Don't think you're immune with an awd car either, awd and a lot of hp can be even worse as all four wheel like to break free which makes it hard to correct. I learned that in my years of plowing snow. Also, awd doesn't help you stop.

5. Teens tend to have a huge ego as well. No one likes the kid who brags about his new Maserati. Chances are you'll make more friends as the kid who drives the jetta, then the schmuck who drives the Camaro SS. Cool cars don't attract friends or make you popular, they just attract people who like cool cars. If you're a jerk people will treat you as one.

6. Police attention. Cops love to give tickets to kids with fast cars. Every kid I knew in high school who drove a fast car got at least one ticket. A kid I knew with a BMW coupe got a ticket for 80 in a 25 the day he got his license. He had to go to defensive driving school, pay a large fine, and he still got points (which made his insurance almost double). That's not saying you wont get a ticket if you drive a beater, but you will attract less attention, which may help. Plus no cop will take pity on a kid driving a $50,000 car.

Yes, I know it's fun to have a cool car. But, trust me, you are much better of driving the beater at least until you're in your 20's. By then you have some experience, you're smarter, better able to care for yourself, and, at the very least, insurance gets cheaper. All you guys that want Porsches, Lotus', STI's, Evo's, Mustang GT's, ect please think about what I've written here. Please consider the slower alternatives. They will definitely save you money, and it just might save your life.

All of this information is true. I've been there. I've driven a beater...but I guess you can say I took the next step pretty quickly. But I did much studying and got alot of information before I dove into my IROC. It took 6 months of research and planning before I made the decision to get it, and I am so glad I did all of that. Not only is my driving record in one piece, my body is in one piece as well.

I think that the most important thing said here was point number 5. I cannot stress as to how many times I have seen guys get "cool" cars, thinking theyd draw the attention of fellow peers and "chicks". The only thing they draw 90% of the time are the police. The only people that will be truly drawn into appreciating your car are people that already appreciate cars as much (or more) as you do. Don't expect the entire class of 2007 to befriend you because you slammed your golf and got a fart can...or even if you put your Mustang on spray. Just doesnt happen. I know guys that will do a burnout in front of a crowd of girls thinking it is "cool", but in the end you just look like a tool...especially if you get pulled over doing it. Nobody cares. If you are going to do retarded things like that, do it at the track, or in an area where the only person you will potentially hurt is yourself. Don't put others in danger.

To guys like 1337, and anyone else that thinks tossing a turbo under the hood, closing it, and expecting it to install itself...read this over a few times. Things just don't work out like the movies the way you think they will.

yea alot of guys do things that they think are "cool" but they really earn idiot points, and the whole time they thing they are the hottest ****

**the following earn you 1 idiot point**
1. If you do a burnout every day leaving school
2. If you rev your engine every day in a parking lot to 5000rpms just so people look at you
3. If you ever claim "i have the fastest car in school"
4. If you drink and drive and brag about it the next day
5. Im sorry but if you install coil overs and a stock car with no other mods and dont intend on ever bringing it to a road coarse, your a complete idiot
6. If you go 110mph on the highway and tell everybody about it as if that makes you cool, please just call a taxi next time,

Me and my car buds had muscle cars in highschool, and we werent total fags about it, we didnt walk around talking about who's **** was hotter, we just chewed the fat all day in class about the wheels or heads we're saving up for. And how we plan on getting into the low 13's on a budget. (not how our cars are mad fast and will do low 12's stock yo)

I learned my lessons, i did burnouts on the last day of school (special occassion ya know?) and got pulled over, i no longer do burnouts on public roads like that. I blew my rear and learned i kinda gotta respect my car and know its limits, and learned im not invincible.

I thought about getting a fast car for my first car (was mainly looking at earlier 'Vettes) but after getting quoted and comparing that to the $700/year on insurance that I have now, I'm definately glad I chose this route. My car doesn't have enough power to get me into too much trouble but I found out after a while that what I thought I needed I really didn't. I get a lot better mileage with a 4-banger than I would have and I can lug people around a lot easier.

Lesson: Go with the less powerful, 4 door sedan. Your parents will be happy and so will your wallet.

I just helped with a junkyard turbo setup on a b18. Took one night to do. Running 13lbs of boost tuned on uberdata, whole cost was $540.

You guys don't know much about Hondas... its not even as hard as you imagine it to be..

NOOOOOOOOOOO
Leet, we've discussed this before-according to everyone on here, hondas are pathetic, a waste of time, a commuter car not meant to be fast, etc. Of course, this seems to be pbf's generally accepted opinion. Good going w/ the B18b, though, def a good engine choice for boost. I just got done helping a buddy with a crx with a JDM D16y8 (boosted, 12 psi on good tune) and wow is that little s*** quick. Only about 1700 bucks and it smokes a lot of V8s from around this area.

They aren't unless you re-build them every 3 thousand miles. Because thast how long a honda engine will last with high enough boost to keep up with the real cars.
